A watermark is a special design or text that’s digitally added on top of a photo or design to show ownership or credit. Digital watermarks are essential for ensuring that you receive full credit for your hard work and creativity. Furthermore, they’re also important because they help prospective customers easily find you if they like what they see!
With simple tools that you can find online, adding a digital watermarks to your photos has never been easier.
Here are some tips for watermarking that we like to follow:
Choose the photos you want to watermark
Start by choosing the photos you want to watermark. If you followed the tips in our DIY Photo Booth blog, you should have lots of professional-looking images that show off your Embroider Buddy® designs!
Select your watermarking program
Search online for free programs that will help you add your watermark. Some of our favourites include PicMonkey and Canva. With step-by-step instructions and easy to follow user guides, these cost-effective and highly accessible tools make adding your own personal stamp to photos quick and painless.
Advanced graphic design tools like Photoshop and Lightroom are other great ways to add personalized watermarks, but they require experience, and usually, a fee.
It can be even done from your phone! Try searching your app store for “watermark” and you’ll be presented with lots of options. Many apps give you the ability to upload your logo should you decide to include it as part of your watermark.
Decide what kind of watermark you want to use
Will you choose to add a logo or a block of text to your photo? The choice is totally up to you! Whatever you decide, we recommend keeping your watermark consistent for branding purposes.
Keep in mind that your watermark should be easy to read – stay away from too-fancy text and tiny font to help with legibility both online and offline.
Add your watermark
How you add your watermark will depend on what program you decide to use, but here are some helpful hints:
- Reduce the opacity on the watermark to ensure you can still see the image underneath.
- Place it somewhere that it can’t be altered or cropped out.
- Size matters! If your watermark is too big, it might distract from the true focus of your picture – your adorable Buddy! If it’s too small, it might not be easy to read.
